Pilot programme — participants wanted

Can mindful eating help people maintain weight after stopping GLP-1?

I'm a bariatric surgeon and researcher investigating whether a structured digital programme can support people through the transition off Mounjaro, Wegovy, and similar medications. I'm looking for participants to try it and tell me honestly what works.

There's a gap in support that nobody is addressing.

Through my PhD research and clinical work with bariatric surgery patients, I found that mindful eating techniques — specifically slowing down, reconnecting with hunger and fullness signals, and developing awareness around food noise — significantly helped patients who struggled after surgery. The same mechanisms that make these techniques effective post-bariatric surgery appear directly relevant to GLP-1 discontinuation.

But nobody has studied this formally. And the clinical need is urgent.

of people who stopped tirzepatide regained significant weight within one year — despite wanting to maintain their results.

NHS commissioning guidance now mandates behavioural wraparound support for all patients prescribed GLP-1 medications. Yet no validated digital intervention exists specifically for the transition off these medications. This study aims to generate the evidence to fill that gap.

PhD — GLP-1 & Weight Regain, UCL
I have spent my career working with patients before and after bariatric surgery, and more recently supporting people using GLP-1 medications. My doctoral research focused specifically on GLP-1 receptor agonists and the mechanisms of weight regain — giving me both the clinical and research background to investigate this problem properly. Mokie is the programme I wished existed for my patients.

Who we're looking for

We're recruiting adults who are currently using GLP-1 medication for weight management, actively reducing their dose, or who have stopped within the last 12 months. You don't need any prior experience with mindful eating or digital health tools.

1
Complete a short intake questionnaire
Takes about 3 minutes. Covers your GLP-1 history, current weight, and what you're hoping for. This is our baseline data.
2
Use the Mokie programme for 12 weeks
At your own pace, in your own time. Start with the phase that matches where you are — still on medication, reducing, or already stopped.
3
Check in at 4, 8, and 12 weeks
Short questionnaires asking about your weight, food noise, and how you're finding the programme. Honest feedback — positive or critical — is exactly what we need.
4
Optional: 15-minute call with Dr Mok
For participants willing to share their experience in more detail. Completely optional and informal.
Join the pilot programme
Free access to the full Mokie programme for 12 weeks.
In exchange, we ask for honest feedback at three points. Your data will be anonymised and used only to evaluate the programme and inform future research.

No payment, no card details required

What the Mokie programme contains

Mokie is a structured digital mindful eating programme developed from techniques used in bariatric aftercare, adapted specifically for the GLP-1 transition. It is structured around three phases corresponding to where participants are in their medication journey.

27 guided audio sessions
Real-time sessions for use during meals, before cravings, and when food noise is loud. Includes sessions specifically for dose reduction, food noise return, and post-cessation difficulty.
The Mokie Method — 5 skills
Connect (hunger/satiety awareness), Slow (eating pace), Nourish (protein and food quality), Plan (environmental structuring), Surf (urge surfing). Plus sections on lean mass preservation and the evidence base.
AI coaching tool
Available between sessions for in-the-moment support, trained on Mokie's content and clinical evidence base.
7-Day Challenge
A structured starting point with one evidence-based behavioural task per day to build initial momentum and habit formation.

What participants often ask

Do I need to still be on medication to join?

No — we're recruiting across all three phases: people still on medication (Phase 1, ideal time to build habits), people actively reducing their dose (Phase 2), and people who have already stopped (Phase 3). All are equally valuable to the pilot.

What happens to my data?

Your personal details (name, email) are stored securely and never shared. Feedback and outcome data is anonymised before any analysis or reporting. You can withdraw at any time and request deletion of your data.

How much time does it take?

The programme is designed to fit around your life. The audio sessions are 5-20 minutes. The three check-in questionnaires take about 5 minutes each. There's no minimum usage requirement — we want to understand what people naturally use, not what they feel they should use.

Is this a formal clinical study?

This is a pilot programme — an important step before a formal clinical trial. We're establishing whether the programme works in practice, what outcomes to measure, and whether a larger randomised trial is warranted. Mokie is a behavioural coaching tool, not a medical intervention, and does not replace clinical care.

Can I give negative feedback?

Please do. Honest critical feedback is more valuable than polite positive feedback at this stage. We want to know what doesn't work, what's missing, and what could be better. That's the whole point of this phase.

How should I taper off my medication?

Mokie doesn't give medical advice on dosing or tapering — please discuss this with your GP or prescriber. We're here to support the behavioural side of the transition, not the medical management of your medication.
